Supernatural: Wendigo
As I recall, Sam’s nightmare about Jess reaching up from her grave startled me the first time I saw it, and it got me again. Sam’s hair still appropriately offsets the massiveness of his cranium, so it made up for a few scenes with some subpar acting from Padalecki.
Everyone notice that the guide (Roy) was played by Callum Keith Rennie, also known as Number Two (Leoben) from BSG?
The other thing that I had forgotten was how eager Sam was to find dad at this point. Dean was always Dad’s pet. Sam starts to understand why his dad is so driven after he loses Jess, but it stands in stark contrast to how he feels once they find the old man.
There are great things about these very early episodes of Supernatural, and despite the low budget, you still get good acting (for the most part), very interesting casting choices, a gritty B Movie feel, great cinematography with beautifully dark blacks, and a host of other goodies. I decided to look at prices for 1967 Chevy Impalas, and I know where about 50% of the first season’s budget went! Now you know why there is no real music until next season!
